Let's face it, talking to young people can sometimes feel like navigating a minefield. We all want to connect on a deeper level, but how do we move past the surface and really engage?
This presentation serves as your toolkit for transforming everyday chats into meaningful dialogues. We'll explore practical strategies for active listening, creating safe spaces, and asking the right questions-the kind that spark reflection and build trust. Discover how to approach challenging topics with empathy and encourage young people to share their perspectives openly.
We recommend having a paper and pencil on hand.

Meet Kris:
I am currently the Cultural Specialist for my tribal community, the Shoalwater Bay Tribe, which means I wear many hats! You'll either find me in the woods, harvesting traditional plants, or supporting the Tribe's heritage museum. I have volunteered for the Dispute Resolution Center since 2015, providing support in various capacities. I was the Dispute Resolution Center’s Board Secretary for two years and then became the Community Peaceweaver for the DRC for two and a half years.
Restorative justice and peacemaking have always been a passion of mine! I studied Indian law, Restorative Justice, and Culture at Western Washington University’s Fairhaven College in the Law and Diversity program, and I assisted in launching Stronger Together as a way to introduce our community to restorative practices. I especially love guiding young people in cultural and conflict resolution practices that plant seeds for future generations.
About Stronger Together:
Stronger Together is a restorative, multigenerational community and teen positive program for people 12+. Once a month, September to May, we gather around topics of importance to our community, such as self care, positive mental outlooks, and healthy relationships, share information and resources and create a space for learning from one another.
